About Kirksville

Kirksville has a population of 17,000+ citizens.

It is home to Truman State University (a State school which is sometimes referred to as the "Little Harvard of the Midwest") and also A.T. Still University (home of Osteopathic medicine).

Quaint shops and restaurants surround the Courthouse Square.  One side of the square features an eight-screen cinema.

Also in the downtown area is the Kirksville Arts Association building which features exhibits by area artisans.  The Arts Association sponsors a variety of classes including basket weaving, paper art, caligraphy, pottery, and painting to name a few.  Receptions, an annual tea event, stage plays and other productions are held on the main floor.

Five city parks serve the city.  The largest is Rotary Park which has picnic shelters, an outdoor ampitheater, and a Frisbee golf course.  It is situated next to the city's aquacenter.  The other four parks are smaller and each has a picnic shelter, playground and large wading pool.

There are two water reservoirs serving the area:
Thousand Hills State Park which is also a State recreation area with picnic areas, swimming beach, boat rentals, restaurant that overlooks the lake, rental cabins and camping areas for tents and RVs. There are walking trails, children's playgrounds and fishing docks.
Hazel Creek Reservoir, just north of town, a good-sized lake features fishing and picnicing areas.  Hazel Creek was recently named the second hottest Bass Lake in Missouri by the State conservation Department.  The lake holds Crappie, Bass, Catfish and Muskie.

Kirksville is also host to a new Missouri State Regional Conservation area.  Visitors are welcome to stroll through the grounds and visit the in-house exhibits.

Kirksville/Adair County was recently named the number one white-tail deer area in the United States by Outdoor Life magazine.
